Narellan Pools operates a gel‑coat production and general manufacturing facility in Picton, NSW. Gel coat and factory activities release styrene vapours that must be controlled to protect workers and meet environmental obligations.
Fowlerex was invited to design a replacement extraction system for the Picton plant. Design parameters were set at 48 m³/s air flow, eight air changes per hour and 1,500 Pa extraction pressure.
Scope of work
- Equipment supply: Fowlerex will supply two FB1700 centrifugal fans (75 kW each) with variable speed drives and fifteen pre-galvanised steel filter boxes to capture styrene-laden air.
- Stack and ducting: A new galvanised steel stack 1.4 m in diameter will be erected, with ductwork connecting to the existing system.
- System configuration: The filter boxes are divided into two groups serving both the gelcoat area and the general workshop, with connections to both existing and new ducting to improve exhaust velocity and minimise discharge points.
- Civil design and coordination: Fowlerex is providing foundation design and civil drawings
- Optional features: Activated carbon filters can be added later for additional odour control.
- Installation and commissioning: The installation is staged so that parts of the existing extraction remain in service while foundations are poured and new fans and filter boxes are connected.
Equipment dispatch is scheduled for early November 2025, and installation and commissioning are expected to take place in December 2025.
