The Ahafo Gold Mine is located approximately 380 kilometres northwest of Ghana’s national capital city of Accra. The Ahafo North Project is a greenfield development some 30 kilometres northeast of Newmont’s existing Ahafo operations, referred to as Ahafo South.

Fowlerex has provide 4 systems for dust and fume collection through our long-term partner Lycopodium.

    Challenges
Mining operations, especially in gold processing, generate considerable amounts of dust and fumes. These emissions can pose serious health, safety, and environmental risks. To mitigate these issues and ensure regulatory compliance, effective dust and fume management systems were essential.

    Solution Provided
Through our long-term partner, Lycopodium, Fowlerex delivered four advanced systems specifically designed to capture and remove dust and fumes from key areas of the project. The installations were divided into two separate job orders:

Job # FTPL11024 – Three Systems for Ahafo North:

    1. Venturi Type Wet Scrubber + FB680 Fan for Gold Room (Dust): This system targets dust particles generated in the gold room, ensuring that the processing area remains clean and safe.
    2. Electrowinning Packed Tower Type Wet Scrubber + FB500 Fan for Fumes: Designed for fume control, this scrubber uses a packed tower design to maximize the contact between contaminated air and the scrubbing medium, effectively reducing harmful emissions.
    3. Carbon Kiln Venturi Scrubber + Fx630 Fan for Exhaust Gas: Optimized for the exhaust gases from carbon kiln operations, this system employs a venturi design to ensure efficient scrubbing before release.

Job # FTPL10918 – One System for the Reclaim Area:

    1. Wet Scrubber for Reclaim Area: Installed in the reclaim area, this scrubber effectively controls dust emissions generated during site restoration, supporting environmental rehabilitation efforts.

    Implementation and Benefits

The deployment of these systems has delivered a range of benefits for the Ahafo Gold Mine project:

    • Improved Air Quality:
The systems significantly reduce dust and fume levels, resulting in a healthier and safer working environment for mine personnel.
    • Regulatory Compliance:
By effectively managing emissions, the project meets stringent local and international environmental standards, reducing the risk of regulatory issues.
    • Operational Efficiency:
With reduced downtime from dust-related disruptions and equipment wear, overall operational efficiency is enhanced.
    • Environmental Stewardship:
The controlled management of pollutants aligns with sustainable mining practices and demonstrates a commitment to minimizing environmental impact.

    Conclusion
Fowlerex, in close collaboration with Lycopodium, has successfully addressed the critical challenges of dust and fume emissions at the Ahafo Gold Mine by delivering a comprehensive turnkey solution. Our customized systems, covering both the gold room and the reclaim area, not only ensure safe and efficient operations but also guarantee compliance with strict environmental standards. Fowlerex’s end-to-end service—from design and installation to commissioning—highlights our leadership and unwavering commitment to providing innovative, reliable solutions in mining environmental management.
